Guidelines
How signups work.
When to sign up
- Signups usually open Monday at 9am ET
- They usually close at midnight on Monday night, ET
- Some games set their own times, so check the ones shown for the game you want
- Nobody is added after signups close
- Most games are Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The homepage says which
Signing up
- First-come, first-served
- Once capacity fills, new signups go on an automatic waitlist, in order
- First time signing up: fill out a short profile (name, gender, positions) which is saved for future weeks. Update it any time from the homepage
- If you are waitlisted, the homepage shows where you are in line
- You can see who else is playing once you're signed up for that week
- Confirmed players get an email once the roster locks, with the teams and what they owe, and can add the game to their calendar
Bringing a guest
- Guests say who invited them when they sign up
- They are also asked whether they are willing to share that member's spot. If not, a guest simply gets their own spot, in signup order like anyone else
- Sharing is never automatic. See below for how it works
Sharing a spot
- Two people, one spot. You take turns, so only one of you plays at a time
- You count as one on the roster, get promoted off the waitlist together, and each pay half
- It only ever happens by asking, and nothing is shared unless the other person accepts
- Two ways to ask: a guest names the member who invited them when they sign up, or anyone waitlisted asks a player directly from the homepage
- A guest's request only reaches the member if that member also signs up that week and isn't already sharing with someone else
- Naming someone never takes their spot or changes what they owe. Declining changes nothing either
- Please reach out to them outside the app first, as a courtesy
- One outstanding request at a time. Cancel it to ask someone else instead
Cancelling
- Cancel any time, right up to game day, from the homepage
- Before the roster locks: the next person (or pair) on the waitlist is automatically confirmed and emailed. Nothing is owed yet at this point, so there's no money to sort out
- After the roster locks: no automatic replacement, so please tell the organizer. Cancelling this late doesn't clear what you owe, so send it anyway
Where we play
- The general area is set when the week opens, e.g. "Mississauga"
- The exact field is booked after signups close, once the headcount is known
- Once it's booked, the field and a map link show up on the homepage
Cost
- A fixed price per spot, shown before you sign up. It doesn't change with headcount
- If you are sharing a spot with someone, you each pay half
- Payment opens when the roster locks, usually 5 hours before the game. The homepage shows the exact time. Pay any time between then and the start of the game. Please be prompt with your e-transfer
- Nothing to pay before that. Cancel earlier and someone from the waitlist simply takes your spot, with no money involved either way
- Once the roster locks, cancelling doesn't remove what you owe. Please e-transfer the organizer for your locked spot
- Payment happens outside the app. The organizer tracks who's paid
Teams
- Teams are drawn up after the roster locks
- They show up on the homepage once the organizer posts them
- Teams are balanced on positions first, then size, then the mix of players
- Two people sharing a spot are always on the same team
- Teams are a suggestion so nobody spends game time picking sides, and you can change them at the field
- If you are down to 8 players, play without a rover
- The regular season rule about 3 girls on the field does not apply, but everyone should get equal playing time
- Two people sharing a spot take turns, so only one of them plays at a time
- If someone cancels after teams are posted, that team plays a person short
When not many sign up
- Some weeks there are not enough people for a game
- When that happens the organizer may ask everyone confirmed whether they would come out for BP/Practice instead. You answer yes or no on the homepage
- You can change your answer while the question is still open
- The answers do not decide it. The organizer reads them and says what is happening
- If you know someone who wants to play, tell the organizer and they can add them. A few more people may be enough for a game
- On a BP/Practice week there are no teams, and the notes above about rovers and playing time do not apply
Something not working?
- Use the Report a bug or send feedback link at the bottom of any page
- It's logged for the organizer, along with your email and the page you were on, and they get a notification that it arrived
- Suggestions are just as welcome as bug reports
A note on risk
- Softball carries a real risk of injury
- Every signup includes a plain acknowledgment of that: you're choosing to play
- See our privacy policy for how your information is used
